Don't waste your time accepting an offer....they will drag orientation out a week. And then not honor your offer for employment for no reason. No compensation for wasting your time. Getting back home is out of your pocket.

Do not waste your time if you are experienced. You will not get the miles. They will give you the higher pay per mile but give the miles to the new drivers who accept bottom pay and you earn the minimum every week. They'll promise better but I dare you to hold your breath on that. So that leads to both not earning what they should. New guys never home..They will strand you so before you realize you cant have a life or pay your bills, secure employment elsewhere first. They will steal your hard earned last check you risked life and limb for AND go the extra mile and inflate fake charges and try to sue for pennies to them. Pennies they donate to Easter Seals trying to maintain such a wholesome, appreciative spirit that is a mere illusion. They're just as bad as a big carrier, there is no honorable quality to be found here unless youre a good little mule for them who has low expectations of how you want you and your family treated. Wolves in sheep clothing, nothing more, nothing less.

Pros

Equipment and maintenance is top tier.

Cons

Dispatch Management Pay and Gaslighting.

I honestly can't fathom these negative reviews on here (or elsewhere) of Decker. I was treated very well there, and that's rare at any job these days, much less trucking. Any time I took an issue to management, it was resolved satisfactorily. But then again I was one of their productive drivers, didn't tear up equipment, always on time, etc. I dunno, maybe the people who can't cut the mustard are treated differently? Total speculation on my part, because I never saw anyone treated badly there in any way. I never even heard anyone raise their voice. They were always very patient and understanding, even if you called in a little heated (which can happen out there some times). The people saying they were ripped off are lying or don't pay attention. They very clearly explain at the end of orientation that you will owe them for your transport, hotel, etc. cost if you don't work there for at least 6 months. This figure goes down every month you work there, until at 6 months it's $0. In fact you sign paperwork to this effect. I have always heard that delivering at all hours (and appointments, waiting around, etc.) is just part of doing reefer, no? Anyway, that's why I do flatbed, instead. ;) The mechanics are very good about getting you in and out for preventive maintenance and repairs, especially the guys in the Bessemer, AL terminal. I put $1,500/wk for pay, which was not an unrealistic average for me at all by the time I left. Of course in reality it ranged from $1,200 to $1,800 depending on how scanning in bills and home time fell. With more home time, truck in shop, etc. it might be a little less, but that's just trucking. And that's TAKE HOME pay. Of course with the per diem program, less taxes are taken out. This was on CPM as a company driver, and I last worked there in early 2022. They are paying even more CPM now(!). They also have a (walk away) lease option, and some OOs working for them who own their own trucks. I will probably go back and lease on whenever I get around to buying my own truck, because they seem like a very legitimate outfit, I was never lied to, and never any funny business with my check. If you are considering Decker, or have questions, etc., make a thread and ping me because the only threads on here are years old and I am not sure how accurate. And eventually I will get around to making one of my own I suppose.

Pros

Great pay (more than any other company I spoke to, and they constantly keep pace with what the industry is doing, some times they would just give out raises across the whole fleet(!)). They treat you very decent. Also, very nicely equipped, well maintained equipment (mostly late model Pete 579s with APU, inverter, fridge, microwave, satellite TV, etc.).

Cons

Some dispatchers have their 'quirks' but I suppose that's anywhere. I'm really struggling to come up with any cons actually.

Buncha "Indian givers." THE ONLY CO. in America that will charge you $680 bucks to recoup a 3 day orientation cost if you quit OR get fired (They will hijack it fr your last paycheck.) Furthermore, the staff act "friendly" n caring BUT EXPECT you to run as they want you to. Tell dispatch the weather is very dangerous? Theyll take the load off you & give it to a money hungry driver willing to risk it. #TrustMe on this. (Orientation/training does NOT mention anything about health or driver fatigue danger.) Why? Because 80% of your reefer deliveries will be in the graveyard wee hours! Expect to be enslaved by dispatch. "No rescheduling deliveries" should be their motto! Regardless of winter weather or fatigue. (They act loving to you at Corporate Office, but dispatch are trained to crack the whip on you hard).

Pros

Pretty gd pay

Cons

Lotsa graveyard deliveries; Dispatch trained to be inflexible even in adverse weather or other conditions.

Decker Truck Line

Well, I'm in a hotel since my trainer is on his home time so I figured I'd share my experience so far. I graduated school back in April. Since I wasn't 23 tmc and boyd turned me down so I bounced between maverick, roehl, and melton for the longest. My friends dad has been driving for decker for last 3 years and has been doing well so I figured I would give it a shot and contacted a recruiter. Everything they told me sounded good on the phone although I still had my expectations low because I didn't know what to expect. They got me a rental car and off I went to Fort Dodge, Iowa. The staff over orientation did a pretty good job in my opinion. They shot it straight with you but they were still friendly and respectful. We had 15 guys that week and only 2 got sent home for medical reasons. And another guy decided that it wasn't for him. Out of the remainder only 3 of us were doing flatbed and the rest were reefer. At the end of that week those who had experience were issued trucks and assigned a load to get them home for the weekend. One of the guys who was flatbed had experience and got a brand new Pete with 3500 mIles on it. Me and the other guy had to do load securement training the following week for 3 days. I ended up leaving a day early that next week because they had a trainer come through the terminal and decided to let me go ahead and hitch a ride with him for the next 4 weeks. Lol. It also turned out that I was his first trainee. He's a really cool guy though. He set aside fridge, closet, and cabinet space for me for some of my stuff. I still have another 2 weeks with him but it's been a really good experience so far. I'm pleased so far with my decision coming to decker. They were honest with everything they told me over the phone and didn't lie about a thing to me. I'm not saying everyone may or may not have experienced the same thing, but they've been good to me thus far.

decker is the worst company, the only thing that I good I can say is the equipment. if you want good equipment with low pay join decker flatbed division, I worked for them 2 months out of my the Bessemer terminal it was a good experience from the people I met at orientation. the company side I can say this you learn from your experience. if you go on the website you will see that per diem that is included but it's out of your money. let me explain they paid me .44 per mile subtract .08 cent, I was making .36 per mile, and they the tell you you will get 2000-2500, my average was 1700 miles per week. if you want to good equipment with low pay decker truck line is the place for you.
